Fire department remembers 6 firefighters killed in 1999 fire at Worcester Cold Storage

Monday marks 19 years since a huge warehouse fire killed six Worcester firefighters.

On December 3, 1999 a massive fire started at the Worcester Cold Storage building.

Six firefighters died inside the massive, dark warehouse while they looking for two homeless people they thought were inside.

Firefighters Paul Brotherton, Timothy Jackson, Jeremiah Lucey, James Jyons III, Joseph McGuirk, and Lieutenant Thomas Spencer were killed in the fire.

Since that fire, fire departments have made significant changes especially when it comes to dealing with fires in abandoned buildings.

More fire departments also designate safety officers to find out where firefighters are at all times.
