CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Stop & Shop strike is about to enter its ninth day, with no end in sight any time soon.
With a goal of $250,000, a GoFundMe page has raised more than $18,000 for unionized Stop & Shop employees on its first day.
The UFCW International Union began the fundraiser Wednesday to help striking employees who have not received a paycheck since April 11.
The UFCW said all the money raised will go towards the 31,000 striking employees. Negotiations are continuing.
Stop & Shop released the statement below to 22News on Thursday:
Negotiations are continuing with the five UFCW local unions. Our primary goal remains to get our associates back to work with a contract that has pay increases for all associates, continued health benefits for eligible associates and increased pension contributions. We remain focused on getting back to fully serving our customers every day.
