GPS tracking activated on all marked State Police cruisers

GPS tracking has been activated in all marked Massachusetts State Police cruisers.

This is a result of the department’s overtime scandal.

Governor Charlie Baker announced on Wednesday that all 1,087 marked cruisers have had their automatic vehicle location systems turned on.

The governor also announced the elimination of Troop E, the troop that patrolled the MassPike.

“I think it’s a wonderful idea, I think it’s great,” said Jeanie O’Malley of Longmeadow. “I think they should have done it a long time ago before we got into this mess. Before it wound up becoming what it became.”

Troop E has been absorbed into three regional barracks to cover the Turnpike.
