Local police officers participate in the Honor Guard at Red Sox game

The Red Sox played against the Tamp Bay Rays

BOSTON (WWLP) - Western Massachusetts was represented at the Boston Red Sox game, Friday night, at Fenway Park in Boston. The Otis, Sheffield, and Pittsfield Police Departments all participated in the Honor Guard.

According to Otis Police Chief Roberta Sarnacki, the department sponsored the Red Sox trip through their Kops 'N Kids program, where officers from the Otis, Tolland and Becket serve as counselors to local kids.

Kops 'N Kids is a 3 day camp designed to help kids feel more comfortable around police officers, while also participating in fun activities and learning to be good citizens.

Chief Sarnacki said the Otis Police Department was asked to serve in the Honor Guard at the Red Sox game; and since several counselors had to watch the Kops 'N Kids campers, officers from Sheffield and Pittsfield were asked to also participate.

The Honor Guard was made up of the following officers:

  • Otis Police - Chief Roberta Sarnacki and Officer Charles Whiting
  • Sheffield Police - Chief Eric Munson and Officer Brian Fahey
  • Pittsfield Police - Sgt. Thomas Dawley and Officer Miles Barber

The Otis, Sheffield and Pittsfield Police Departments also participate in the Fist Bump and High Five Friday's initiative.

Unfortunately, the Red Sox played against the Tamp Bay Rays, Friday night, and lost 10 to 5.
