(WPRI) — Massachusetts State Police has introduced its newest member of the force, a 4-month-old English Black Labrador named Luna.
“Luna is the first ever comfort dog to serve with the Massachusetts State Police and she is a welcome addition to our fundamental mission to help people in need,” Colonel Kerry Gilpin said.
Luna’s role will be to reduce stress and promote wellness and healing for first responders and their families after a traumatic incident.
Eventually, the Labrador will work with civilian victims and survivors. Trooper Chad Tata of the Employee Assistance Unit (EAU) is Luna’s handler, who she lives with.
Luna was donated to the Massachusetts State Police by Peggi and David Brogan of Boonefield Labradors in Rindge, New Hampshire.
Boonefield Labradors is known for their calm temperaments and sweet personalities.
