State senators, representatives to be sworn into office

State senators and representatives will be sworn in, in Boston Wednesday.

Wednesday marks the start of a new two-year Legislative session, the 191st of the General Court. 

Incoming members of the state house and senate will participate in the ceremonies.

Expected to win another two year term is Democratic Representative Robert DeLeo, who was first elected as speaker in 2009.

Democratic Senator Karen Spilka is also expected to be elected to her first, full two-year term as Senate president.

Before the ceremonies,  House and Senate Democrats are expected to nominate the next House speaker and Senate president.

This week Governor Baker will be sworn in for his second term in office along with the Lt. governor, Karyn Polito. 

The Republican defeated his Democratic challenger Jay Gonzalez in November’s election to claim another four years as the state’s chief executive

They’ll be sworn in at noon on Thursday at the Statehouse.
