Sturbridge police investigating report of metal object found in Halloween candy

STURBRIDGE, Mass. (WWLP) – Sturbridge police are investigating a report of a metal object found inside a piece of Halloween candy.

According to Sturbridge Police Lt. Earl Dessert, a parent wen to the police station on Thursday to report they found a small metal object inside a Now and Later candy.

Dessert said it was not a needle or a sharp item. 

The child allegedly went trick or treating in the Heritage Green Complex located on Heritage Green Drive in Fiskdale. 

“It is unknown at this time if the piece of metal was intentionally place in the candy or it was a manufacturing defect,” Dessert said.

Sturbridge police are working with manufacturer of the candy and the Food and Drug Administration in their investigation. In the meantime, police are advising parents to thoroughly examine their children’s candy. Anyone with information is asked to call Sturbridge police at 508-347-2525.

Police in Marshfield, Massachusetts, are also investigating similar reports. On Thursday, Marshfield police said sharp needles were reportedly found in two Twizzlers.
