Americans are on the move, and many of them are leaving the Bay State.
Massachusetts is also known as the Spirit of America state, but more and more people are finding their spirit elsewhere.
A recent study conducted by moving company United Van Lines, tracked customers’ state-to-state migration patterns over the past year.
They found Massachusetts ranked seventh on the list of the top outbound states in 2018.
22News spoke with one person whose son just got back from the South and is considering moving.
“He said Tennessee was a lot more milder and the seasons were longer other than winter,” said Agawam resident Gary Suffriti. “So he said he doesn’t plan on staying here. I think my wife and me are going to leave also.”
But some people from the area are choosing to relocate much closer.
The study also found that many of your neighbors might be moving just over the state line to Vermont.
Last year Vermont had the highest percentage of people moving into the state with more than 230 total moves.
The survey also found that a big factor behind these moves was a career change.
Roughly one out of every two people who moved in the past year relocated for a new job or company transfer.
New Jersey took the number one spot for most outbound moves.
