A memorial mass was held in Chicopee Tuesday night to commemorate the horrific events of September 11th, 2001.
The mass was held at the Holy Name of Jesus Parish to honor those who were killed in the attacks.
Residents gathered in remembrance of family, friends, and first responders who lost their lives on that fateful day.
Norma Hernandez of Chicopee told 22News how having a daughter who was a first responder in New York City made it personal. She said, “Something big had just happened… and I thought of my children: one daughter in NYC and my son in the Marine Corps at the time. And all I did was just cry.”
Officer Mike Wilk of the Chicopee Police Department told 22News, “This is something that no one should ever forget. It’s very important to remember everybody that perished – that died. And to never let something like this go.”
