The finishing touches are being added to MGM Springfield, less than 24 hours before its opening .
MGM Springfield has 250 hotels rooms, but it isn’t the only hotel in Springfield ready for the grand opening.
“We are all anticipating an uptick in the number of travelers, and the number of people who need to stay in our hotels,” said Mary Kay Wydra of the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
La Quinta on Congress Street is one of the hotels already seeing a positive impact from MGM.
“We’re not quite sold out for tomorrow night yet, but we’re close,” said Connie Brown, the hotel’s director of sales. “Like 10 to 15 rooms left to sell so we’re close. But tonight is sold out and Saturday night is sold out.”
And the excitment surrounding MGM spurred the construction of other hotels in Springfield, like the Hampton Inn on East Columbus Avenue, and the Holiday Inn Express on Willow Street.
People said the city has really improved with the addition of the casino.
“The area is getting nicer, more popular, busy, and cleaner,” said resident Sandra Brown.
