WINDSOR LOCKS, CT. (WWLP) – Security is being stepped up at airports across the country as millions of travelers board planes for the 4th of July weekend.
According to AAA, 43-million Americans are expected to travel this Independence Day weekend, making it the busiest 4th of July travel weekend on record.
Airports in the U.S. have increased security following the recent terrorist attack at an airport in Turkey, that left 43-people dead, and dozens of others wounded.
The boost in security isn’t just limited to airports.
Earlier this week, Homeland Security Secretary, Jeh Johnson spoke about the steps they’re taking to keep Americans safe this weekend. “The American public should expect to see this July 4th weekend, an enhanced security presence at airports, train stations and other transit centers across the country by TSA and state and local law enforcement as well as security personnel generally,” he said.
The TSA recommends getting to the airport a little earlier than usual because of the enhanced security.
