April has been a very wet month. “We’ve had 17 wet days and only 9 dry days this month so it’s not just been the amount of rain but it’s been the number of days that have been wet that something no doubt people have been frustrated by,” said 22News Storm Team Meteorologist Nick Bannin.
So far this month we’ve picked up 5.59″ of rain. On average we usually get just over 3″ by now. So we currently have a surplus of over 2.5″ of rain.
All that rain is keeping the water level of the Connecticut River on the high side. Video taken from SkyView22 earlier this week shows some of the flooding around the Oxbow Marina in Northampton.
Water is pouring over the Holyoke Dam and at Brunelle’s Marina in South Hadley the water made it up into the parking lot, something that hasn’t happened in a while.
“The last couple of years it has been drier and we haven’t seen it up this high it does come up with everything melts it comes down from the north as far as it being this significant and this high for the last couple of weeks we haven’t seen that in a while,” said James Brunelle of Brunelle’s Marina, South Hadley.
There is also a lot of debris in the water and with more rain on the way the Connecticut River is expected to rise as we head through the weekend.
