(WWLP) – Mercy Medical Center is celebrating National Nurses Week by unveiling a new statue at the front entrance of the hospital in the Nurses Garden.

This statue, depicting a nurse in traditional garb, now sits in the Nurses’ Garden, at the front entrance of the hospital. This coming one year after Mercy dedicated that garden to it’s nurses.

22News was able to speak to President of Mercy Medical Center Deborah Bitsoli, who told us how this dedication is tied to their history, “Today is really to celebrate the old Mercy School of Nursing, as well as out retired nurses, as well as our current nurses. So we’ve all been touched by a special nurse and this is really to celebrate those nurses.”

It recognizes the importance of ethics in nursing and acknowledges the strong commitment, compassion, and care nurses embody in their practice and profession.

Mercy on Wednesday also celebrated a fourth consecutive “A” grade in hospital safety from the Leapfrog Group.
