The Northampton police department has received a grant that will allow them to buy car seats for families in need.

According to Northampton Police Captain John Cartledge, Northampton was one of 58 police and fire departments, non-profit agencies, and hospitals to receive the the Child Passenger Safety Grant in Massachusetts.

Cartledge said, the Northampton police department is also one of over 235 car seat inspection sites in the state, and have certified technicians on hand to make sure the seats are installed correctly.

“This grant helps us better serve families who find it difficult to afford car and booster seats to protect their children,” said Captain John Cartledge. “We can also assist parents and caregivers with the proper installation of their child’s seats.”

To schedule an appointment for inspection, of for new seat installation you can email Officer Jeff Staples at jstaples@northamptonma.gov or Officer Ken Kirchner at kkirchner@northamptonma.gov.
