Northwestern District Attorney’s Office warning residents not to fall victim to schemes

The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office is warning residents to not fall victim to certain schemes. The consumer protection unit posted some tips on how to protect your money.

Consumers are being advised to never put their money at risk by using gift cards to pay bills, or sending cash through the mail to claim prizes — especially if it’s to someone you don’t know.

The consumer protection unit is also warning residents to beware of popular schemes like IRS schemes or schemes claiming you’ve won a prize.

If you receive a call or email that you think may be a scheme, you are asked to report it immediately.
