Passenger seriously injured in Springfield crash; Driver charged with OUI


SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A man has been charged with OUI after crashing into two trees early Monday morning, seriously injuring his passenger.

According to Springfield Police Department spokesman Ryan Walsh, 25-year-old Fabian Torres was cited for OUI liquor and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Torres and his 31-year-old passenger were taken to Baystate Medical Center. Springfield Fire Department spokesman Dennis Leger told 22News the passenger of the car is in serious condition.

Leger said the accident happened in front of 1532 Bay Street just before 4:00 in the morning.

Bay Street had been closed between Berkshire Ave and Boston Road, but has since re-opened to traffic.
