The time may be right to correct a chronic problem at Springfield’s Gerena Community School.
For years the city has sought a solution to the problem of water from the Birnie Avenue overpass impacting to the Gerena School Tunnel below.
Today, Mayor Domenic Sarno gave the order to create a schematic design for the overpass improvements which eventually will cost around $800,000.
“The infrastructure for the program on the federal level, President Trump has been working with Congressman Richard Neal, we want to be able to say this is ready to go,” Sarno said.
Mayor Sarno said over the years the state has been helpful in minimizing the damage from the seepage. But now is the time to move ahead with a permanent solution to this long-standing problem.
