Pittsfield police are searching for arson suspect

(NEWS10) – Pittsfield Police are searching for 58-year-old Phillip Jordan in connection to a series of arsons.

Police believe Jordan is responsible for fires on Appleton Avenue, Fort Hill Avenue, Ridgeway Avenue, and Brown Street.

Jordan is described as being a white male with long salt & pepper hair, 5 ft. 7 in. tall, weighing 135 lbs.

Jordan is believed to be operating a blue 2005 Subaru Legacy with Massachusetts license plate numbered 7LJA90.  He is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

The fires began within minutes of each other at around 6:45 p.m. Saturday night.  There is a heavy police presence throughout the city of Pittsfield.  Some areas of the city have also experienced power outages.

“The other fires are out and they’re being stayed on.  We’ve got investigators en route to it, we’ve got State Fire Marshalls probably coming into the community.  We are probably going to be in for a very long night here,” said Pittsfield Fire Chief Robert Czerwinski.

The Massachusetts Department of Fire Services have sent fire marshalls to help assist local law enforcement in the investigation.  There was also mutual aid from several agencies in the surrounding areas including from Dalton, Lenox, and Richmond.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Jordan, or who witnesses suspicious activity involving anyone matching his description, is asked to immediately contact the Pittsfield Police Dept. at 413-448-9700 and press 0 to speak with a Dispatcher.
