(WPRI) – A Pawtucket father was charged with abusing his 2-month-old baby girl after the child was brought to Hasbro Children’s Hospital earlier this week.

Alfonso Acevedo, 28, of Pawtucket, was arraigned Friday morning on three charges of first-degree child abuse.

According to Pawtucket police, the child was brought to the hospital Wednesday with a fractured leg. Upon further examination, they said doctors determined the baby girl had 12 separate fractures to various bones in her body, some in different stages of healing.

Police said the doctor determined that the injuries were sustained as the result of child abuse and notified the Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF).

Investigators determined Acevedo had hurt his daughter three separate times, leading to his arrest.

A spokesperson for DCYF said this is the first time they’ve been contacted about this family. Acevedo was held on $75,000 bail with surety. The judge said each of the three charges come with at least a 20 year sentence.

Acevedo is expected to be back in court on June 22.
