A police dog with the Yarmouth police department who was shot in April has fully recovered.

The Yarmouth Police Department made the announcement Thursday on Facebook and said K-9 Nero “has fully recovered from his wounds and is enjoying his retirement from police service back home living with the Gannon family.”

Nero’s and his handler Yarmouth police Sgt. Sean Gannon were shot on April 12 while serving an arrest warrant at a home in Barnstable.

Nero had surgery after he was shot in the head and neck, and has been recovering since.

Gannon, however, suffered a fatal shot to the head, and died shortly after getting to Cape Cod hospital.
