Tuesday’s election meant a tie for a Select Board seat between incumbent Charles Kenieke and Matthew Roland.
The two need to petition for a recount by Friday. As of Tuesday afternoon, no one has.
If neither one does, the board of selectman can call for a special election to determine a winner.
Southampton Town Administrator, Ed Gibson told 22News, he has no doubt that a special election will take place.
“We’re kind of in a wait and see period. In my opinion, I don’t see any reason why the select board would not call for a special election,” said Gibson.
If it does to a special election, it will happen after a 65-day notice and will also cost the town nearly $2,500.
Gibson told 22News that although ties do happen they are rare.
