Trump alienates allies at NATO summit

President Donald Trump took some of his closest allies task Wednesday during a testy breakfast with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. 

 President Trump ripped into Germany, saying it’s “totally controlled” by and “captive to Russia” over a pipeline project.

 German Chancellor Angela Merkel fired back, saying her country makes it’s own decision. 

 The president also slammed NATO countries for not paying enough for defense, saying it’s an “unfair burden on the United States.”

 On the sidelines of the summit, NATO leaders met face-to-face with Mr. Trump, declaring their “unwavering commitment” to defense spending targets.
