President Trump went on a wide-ranging Twitter tear Thursday, targeting everyone from the media to the Justice Department and James Comey, the FBI director he fired.
The presidential tweet storm comes on the same day as the Washington Post headline “Winter Is Coming,” highlighting reported concerns that the White House is not prepared for possible legal troubles at a potentially crucial time, with midterms just around the corner.
“They have no idea of the onslaught that might be coming if the Democrats take the House,” said former U.S. Attorney Harry Litman.
There are also questions about what will be included in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report on the Russia investigation and what that could mean for the White House.
“They have to be fully staffed up with very high quality lawyers. Instead they’ve lost three of the White House Council’s deputies. A fourth one will leave tomorrow. It’s a very difficult situation given what could be down the road,” said former U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance.
