NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s been 34 years since the Northampton Pride Parade first became a landmark event in the city of Northampton.
Thousands lined the sidewalks in downtown Northampton to cheer the thousands who participated in this annual event on the first Saturday in May. The theme of this year’s pride parade was, “We continue to fight for all our rights”.
Northampton’s Jim Neill watched proudly from the sidelines. Neill said, “The town really comes together, the street is closed which is nice. There’s a feeling of festivity, it’s always sort of bubbling under the surface in Northampton, it kind of breaks open on the day. It’s such a cliché but there’s a lot of love in the street.”
The marchers, along with many in the crowd, would later gather at the 3 County Fairgrounds for an afternoon of music and camaraderie.
An estimated 20,000 people took part in the pride parade, with thousands more lining Main Street downtown.
