Program aims to help local businesses work with UMass facilities

A new Innovation Voucher Program is providing businesses access to UMass research facilities throughout the state.

Businesses will be able to use cutting edge technology from UMass campuses and students will get real world experience without leaving campus.

The program provides businesses access to UMass research facilities by subsidizing the cost.

“Across all five campuses, we have about 90 core facilities that companies can access,” Dr. Peter Reinhart told 22News. “All they have to do is click on a button and connect with us. We’ll determine the appropriate pricing structure and scope of work is.”

For businesses with fewer than 50 full time employees, the state picks up half the cost. If the company has fewer than 10 employees, the state will cover 75 percent.

The Massachusetts House of Representatives teamed up with UMass to launch the Innovation Voucher Program. The program was created with a $2 million state investment.

To apply for the “Innovation Voucher Program” you can log on to the UMass website for an application.

The approval process takes about a week.
