ASHFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Western Massachusetts is home to a wide variety of different bird species, but the peacock is certainly not one of them! So it was a surprising sight when two female peacocks (actually, they are known as peahens) were seen roaming around on Hill Road in Ashfield Monday.
Ashfield Police Chief Diane Wilder told 22News that they have no idea who owns the birds or where they came from, but they have not caused any problems.
Peafowl (both the male peacock and female peahen) are generally native to south Asia, though there is one species of the bird indigenous to Africa.
