Rachel’s Table collecting food donations for federal employees impacted by shutdown

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Western Massachusetts-based Rachel’s Table is holding a ‘foodraiser’ for those impacted by the government shutdown.

Director Jodi Falk told 22News Rachel’s Table is collecting food donations for federal employees who are furloughed or working without pay due to the shutdown.

Food donations are being collected at Rachel’s Table’s central office in Springfield. To get there, just put 1160 Dickinson Street in your GPS. Donations can be dropped off between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friday.

Falk said their first planned delivery of food is to Project Hope Pantry. The organization will be opening their pantry to federally furloughed employees on January 23. 

Donations will also be delivered to the Pioneer Valley USO at Westover Air Reserve Base. The USO is expanding access of its food pantry to include all reservist who serve as federal employees outside their duties at Westover.

Federal empolyees at Westover are not affected by the shutdown. 

The foodraiser will continue for the remainder of the shutdown. Rachel’s Table is a project of the Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts
