Residents upset with illegal dumping in Chicopee

News

Someone is illegally dumping trash in a Chicopee neighborhood.

Our 22News saw everything from tires to a mattress dumped at the end of Robbins Road in Chicopee, and it creates extra work for the Chicopee Department of Public Works.

Chicopee Residents are fed up with whoever it is that’s dumping trash in their neighborhood.

Someone littered this property in the Chicopee falls section of the city with everything from a mattress to trash.

One of the neighbors emailed 22News through our “ReportIt” feature. We found out Chicopee’s DPW IS responsible for cleaning up the mess.

Robert Goncalves told 22News all the illegal dumping is upsetting, “It’s just upsetting to me, because its beautiful here. There’s deer. There’s foxes. I love taking my dog for a walk, but I don’t like the people dumping their trash. Can’t they see its beautiful nature here.”

Chicopee residents who have a permit can dump their bulk items at the City Landfill for no charge. That includes appliances and furniture.

Assistant to the DPW Superintendent Benjamin Strempka told 22News they are working with the Sanitation department to clean the mess on Robbins Road.
