There are several possible projects proposed for a vacant lot in Greenfield. The property is located between Beacon and Riddell Streets.
Mayor William Martin told 22News that there’s a possible conflict now that there are several projects under review for this property.
Potential projects include a fire station, a public safety complex or a skate park. Martin said a public safety complex would be the first priority.
These three projects now overlap after the public safety complex plan was turned down by the city’s council in September.
Martin told 22News there are “limited” places where a fire station could be built on city-owned property. But he said there’s hope.
“The architect we’ve hired told us that he had just built a fire department with a skate park,” Martin said. “So hopefully that’s a good omen and we do have enough land to do something of that sort.”
Greenfield’s first skate park closed in 2010. Since then, skate park advocates have tried several times to find another place to open a park in Greenfield.
Martin told 22News that the city is working closely with the fire department and the recreation commission to find a solution.
