Sheffield native was aboard Ethiopian Airlines plane that crashed with no survivors

A Sheffield native was onboard the Boeing 737 Max 8 jet that crashed in Ethiopia last weekend.

Twenty-four-year-old Samya Stumo was on her way to Uganda while working for ThinkWell, a global public health organization when the plane crashed six minutes after takeoff.

22News spoke with someone who works in the area and said everyone knows each other in town.

“The social media, you see all the pictures of the victims and everything,” said Ryan Bosworth. “And the victim’s families. I work at a grocery store and I’ve seen those faces before. So it’s very hard to hear.”

Stumo also went to school at UMass Amherst.

There were no survivors in that crash.
