It may have been a while since you’ve had to use your snow blower, but before you do, there are some important things to keep in mind.
They make it easier to remove the snow from your driveway, but when you’re using your snow blower it’s important to stay safe. Shear pins help to keep you from damaging your snow blower if you hit something and it’s important to take precautions when you have to replace them.
“Make sure when you do change the shear pins on the auger. I would recommend disconnecting the spark plug so it doesn’t accidentally turnover and specifically do not put hands anywhere near the chutes or augers,” said Joe Ovelheiro from Rocky’s Ace Hardware in Agawam.
If your snow blower gets clogged you should turn it off and wait five seconds. Use a stick or broom handle to clear the snow. Always keep your hands and feet away from any moving parts.
Also, you shouldn’t wear loose clothing like scarves when operating a snow blower because it could get caught and you could be injured.
