South Hadley seeking residents’ input on hiring new police chief

News

South Hadley is asking for residents’ help in selecting their next police chief.

The current chief is retiring, and the town asked for public input Thursday night about the qualities people would like to see in their next chief.

One former South Hadley police chief, William Schneker, used his experience to suggest what characteristics he thinks are important to lead the police department. He said, “I think I would like to see somebody who is proactive rather than reactive. Try to head off any problems before they arrive. Should have somebody that has the ability to make a decision that may not be popular, and to be fair and impartial.”

Feedback from Thursday night’s meeting will be taken into consideration as the town goes through the hiring process.
