Springfield College students spend afternoon cleaning up their community

New students at Springfield College spent Sunday afternoon getting familiar with the area they now call home.

Freshman and first year students went out into three neighborhoods near Springfield College to perform community service.

They are doing yard work, painting, and clearing the sidewalks for younger children who walk to nearby schools.

Springfield College Center for Service and Leadership Director Charlene Elvers told 22News, “Our students are going to make sure the sidewalks are cleared, they’re cleaned up, there’s no brush that comes out into the sidewalk. And that it’s a safe, and great environment to walk to school in.”

A spokesperson for the school told 22News that Springfield College students provide more than 120,000 hours of service to the community throughout an academic year.
