GERA, Tanzania (WWLP) – Springfield physician Dr. Mary Banda built on her passion for helping the poor in the African nation of Tanzania.
Dr. Banda supervised the preparation of donated material that will be used to build a hospital in the town of Gera, Tanzania. The construction of the hospital will be latest contribution on behalf of her commitment to the organization she founded called Jambo Tanzania.
Dr. Banda said “The effort started in 1998, we built a school first. They had no place to get an education and we built a health center, we had 800 to 2,000 patients and for free.”
Dr. Banda said she’s proud of what she’s been able to accomplish for the Tanzanian town since 1998, and what can be done for the African nation with this new hospital.
