The Springfield Fire Department unveiled its new electronic devices designed to save lives in an emergency.
Mayor Domenic Sarno and Fire Commissioner B.J. Calvi showed off the mobile video surveillance system and the intelligent gas detection system on Thursday.
Commissioner Calvi says the new technology is state of the art. “If there was a gas leak—heaven forbid—we can evacuate the neighborhood. We can set these monitors out and decide if we have to evacuate the neighborhood.”
The Commissioner told 22News that state funding and private donations provided more than $100,000 to buy these devices.
