The Springfield jeweler Smith and Son reached a milestone on Thursday. The fourth generation jewelry store celebrated 100 years in business in the city’s Forest Park neighborhood.
Customers came by to offer congratulations to owner Andrew Smith. He told 22News how his store has thrived even in this era of on-line purchasing.
“It’s all about customer service,” Smith explained. “The internet can do a lot of great things, but it can’t help you pick out something and help you at deciding. You can’t feel it, you can’t touch it.”
Mayor Domenic Sarno came by the store issuing a proclamation celebrating their longevity.
The walls of the store are bedecked with vintage photographs tracing the early history of the Springfield business founded back in 1918.
