SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – German Gerena Community School parents expressed their concerns Saturday about water-related conditions at the North End Magnet school complete.

Ward One City Councilor Adam Gomez called for a solution to “black mold and stagnant water” at the tunnel connecting the Gerena School from Birnie Avenue to Plainfield Street.

Councilor Gomez told 22News, it’s an issue of concern that goes back many years. “The problem has been happening for over the past fifteen year about twenty years ago I used to attend the school through the eighth grade, the school has always for some reason had water difficulties.”

He referred to a history of flooding, in addition to the bursting of water pipes in 2002.

He’s conferred with other city officials about using federal funds to correct the Gerena school water problems once and for all.
