A group of Springfield firefighters will be taking part in a Firefighter Combat Challenge.
The Springfield Fire Department was presented with a check for $500 from Premier Source Credit Union on Thursday.
That money will help pay for team shirts and travel expenses for the competition that is taking place in Indianapolis.
The Combat Challenge is a competitive event that highlights what firefighters do on a daily basis.
Springfield firefighter William Torres told 22News this competition shows people what firefighters do every day.
“It’s brought into the fire service to show people what we’re actually doing and how demanding this job is,” Torres explained. “It helps us stay physical and in shape for our job because it depends on it.”
According to Springfield Fire spokesman Dennis Ledger, four firefighters will be making the trip this spring.
They will be leaving sometime in April.
