Daniel Carey wins 2nd Hampshire District Democratic Primary

(WWLP) – Easthampton City Councilor Daniel Carey has defeated South Hadley Selectman John Hine, and political/community activist Marie McCourt, of Granby, in the Democratic Primary race for the state House’s 2nd Hampshire District. 

With 100% of precincts reporting, Carey won with 3,186 votes, or 45%, compared to McCourt’s 30% of votes and Hine’s 24%.

Carey will face South Hadley Republican Donald Peltier in the general election. 

The 2nd Hampshire District includes all of Easthampton, Hadley, and South Hadley, as well as the southern half of Granby. Rep. John Scibak (D-South Hadley)decided not to run for re-election, leaving his seat open.
