State lawmakers lit a tree Tuesday to honor Gold Star families who’ve lost loved ones in the line of duty.
On that tree hang photos of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
At Tuesday’s ceremony, Governor Charlie Baker was joined by his wife Lauren Baker, who said they make it a point to come to the Gold Star Tree Dedication every year.
At the State House tree-lighting, legislators showed their gratitude for the selfless service and endless bravery portrayed by men and women in the armed forces.
“This is the home of the free because of the brave,” Governor Baker said.
The holiday season is an especially difficult time for families of fallen soldiers, and the tree dedication is just one way to show that their loved ones will never be forgotten.
The tree will remain on display in Memorial Hall at the Massachusetts State House throughout the holiday season.
