Mayor Sarno on state Democratic Convention: I’m about common sense

Boston Statehouse

The Massachusetts Democratic Party Convention will be held in Springfield later this year.

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno is a Democrat, but his support for Republican Governor Charlie Baker has upset many Democratic party members.

The Massachusetts Democratic Party Convention is held every year, and this year Democrats chose to have it in Springfield. But Mayor Sarno wasn’t asked to speak at the convention, because of his endorsement for Governor Baker during the November elections.

Mayor Sarno told 22News Governor Baker has played a big part in the city’s recent economic success, “I’m about common sense. Whether it’s a Republican, Democrat, or Independent.”

Sarno added, “If it’s something good that solves an issue or helps out the residents or business community of Springfield, I’m all for it.”

Mayor Sarno said he’s still very excited for the Democratic Party Convention and the economic impact it will have on the city’s restaurants, hotels, and tourist attractions.

The State Democratic Party Convention will be held at the Mass Mutual Center Saturday, September 14.
