State Democratic Party Convention to be held in Springfield, Sarno not asked to speak

Boston Statehouse

The state will once again hold its democratic convention in western Massachusetts this fall.

The democratic party convention will be held in Springfield in September. But, Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno was not asked to speak at the event because of his support for Governor Charlie Baker in last November’s election.

Baker, a Republican, won re-election over Democrat Jay Gonzalez.

The mayor issued a statement saying he’s happy state Democrats chose to hold this year’s convention in the city. He justified his support for the governor and said Baker worked very effectively with our democratic legislature, which benefited both Springfield and the Commonwealth.

Mayor Sarno added that the convention will bring more people to the city and be good for local hotels and restaurants.

The State Democratic Party Convention takes place September 14.
