Suspects in Amherst homicide held without bail in Arizona jail

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (WWLP) – The two men charged in connection with a deadly shooting outside an Amherst apartment complex are being held in an Arizona jail without the right to bail. Soknang Chham, 33, and Soksot Chham, 35, both of New Salem, were at Coconino County Courthouse in Flagstaff, Arizona Wednesday, one day after their arrest.

Soknang Chham is charged with murder and armed assault with intent to murder for the October 15 killing of Jose “Joselito” Rodriguez. Rodriguez and another man were shot multiple times outside the Southpoint Apartments on East Hadley Road. The second victim survived his wounds.

Soksot Chham, who Northwestern DA spokesperson Mary Carey says is believed to be Soknang’s brother, is charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

The two were arrested by members of the U.S. Marshals Service near Flagstaff on Tuesday, after investigators received word that they had boarded a bus in Massachusetts that was bound for Phoenix.

Carey says that the suspects could be back in court as soon as Thursday. If they waive extradition, they will be returned to Massachusetts in the coming weeks, and arraigned at Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown.
