Franklin Tech and Smith Vocational kicked off their Thanksgiving football game one day early!
Because of expected frigid temperatures and wind chills on Thursday, Franklin County Technical School and Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School rescheduled their Thanksgiving Day football game to Wednesday night.
“We were looking out for the best interest of the safety of our student-athletes, the student-athletes of Smith [Vocational], fans,” said Varsity Football Coach Joe Gamache of Franklin Tech. “I mean tomorrow’s forecast obviously is extremely cold temperatures.”
Thanksgiving Day will be very cold and windy. The record low for Thursday’s date is 12 degrees set in 1969 and we’ll get close to it on Thursday morning, plus the wind.
Wednesday night’s game is the first time Franklin Tech goes head-to-head with Smith Vocational. Coach Gamache said he hopes it’ll be the start of a long-standing rivalry.
Wednesday night’s showdown is the first Thanksgiving football game for Smith Vocational.
As for Franklin Tech, they were excited to face a new opponent.
The Smith Vocational Vikings beat the Franklin Tech Eagles 24-14.
