(WWLP) – Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages, when you visit New England’s great state fair, don’t miss The Big E Circus Spectacular!
The sights, the sounds, the high flying thrills! The Big E Circus Spectacular has been amazing audiences since 1979, first in the coliseum, and now under the big top next to the big slide. The Hanneford Circus has been at The Big E all of those years. Nellie Hanneford literally grew up at The Big E with her family’s traveling circus.
“Well, I was 7 years old the first time I ever came here. It’s kind of been home away from home for our family. We’ve been coming here and playing The Big E. It’s always been an exciting part of our year,” said Nellie Hanneford.
Now Nellie’s daughter, the eight generation of Hanneford circus performers, will wow you with her unique act.
“This year I’m performing our family act, with my father. It’s called risley acrobatics. He lays down in his chair and foot juggles us with his feet,” said Catherine Hanneford.
If you think human juggling is unusual, check out this act, pigs! Pigs that sing!
“Don’t forget the circus is best enjoyed by consuming large quantities of cotton candy” yes, best to stay fueled up on sugar for this action packed hour. The circus gets rave reviews from these fair folks.
A few people told 22News their favorite parts of the circus. Those things included “The lady with the hair, hanging up in the air,” the elephants, and the motorcycles. Someone also said they loved the Cubans.
“I loved the Cubans, because they were so good looking!”
The Big E may be a hundred, but the circus never gets old.
The big circus spectacular is free with fair admission, and shows start at 1, 4 and 7 p.m. everyday!
