The cold didn’t keep skiers away from Ski Butternut

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. (WWLP) –  At Ski Butternut in Great Barrington skiers were bundling up and putting on their skis while the snowboarders strapped on their boards.

The cold temperatures didn’t keep some people from hitting the slopes.

“It’s remarkable because it’s only like 10 degrees out but when there’s no wind and the sun’s out it’s just you can be out there forever,” said Robert Nussbaum of Fort Lee, New Jersey

Ski Butternut opened Thursday and there is plenty of snow on the slopes. Conditions are a lot different this year than they were last year at this time.

“I’m enjoying the weather this year a lot more than last year. Last year I was out in a Hawaiian shirt on Christmas taking a hike this year we’re out enjoying skiing in the middle of December,” said Matt Sawyer the Director of Marketing at Ski Butternut.

This year we’re skiing a month earlier than last year so we’re doing really well. We’re getting off to a great start and the snow is fantastic,” said Chris Donlon of Springfield.

The snow the Berkshires got earlier this month and the snow we all got earlier this week has made it a great start to the season. Something they all need after a mild and pretty snow-free season last year.
