WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It was a pigeon lover’s paradise on Saturday at the Big E grounds in West Springfield.

Thousands of birds flocked to the 94th annual Grand National Show of the national Pigeon association.

There were many rare birds among the more than two hundred breeds of pigeons and doves. Pigeon popularity was evident among the exhibitors and bird fanciers. 22News found out how judges select the best in show.

“They breed to a station, just like a dog station, color, markings everything is broken down by points,” said Rich Werner of Blakeslee Pennsylvania.

Pigeon fanciers brought their birds to West Springfield from all over North America for this annual competition.
