One-handed MMA fighter Nick Newell training in Springfield ahead of big fight

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Nick Newell, an MMA fighter born without one of his hands, is set to make his return at the end of May in a matchup vs. Kelvin Hackney in Hartford.

What you may not know is that the Connecticut fighter has strong ties to western Massachusetts. It was in Springfield where Newell first discovered his love for mixed martial arts 15 years ago. To this day, Newell trains at Fighting Arts Academy in Springfield with his coach Jeremy Libiszewski multiple times a week.

Newell is also an alumni of Western New England University, where he wrestled at the collegiate level for four years.
