BUFFALO (WWLP) – A UMass Dining employee traveled all the way to Buffalo to watch a team she’s grown close to play for their first national title.

Joanne Keller is the omelette cook at UMass’ Hampshire Dining Hall and has had the pleasure of serving the UMass Hockey team all season.

“I got to know the kids really well and got to see alot of the team,” Keller said. “Just the chemistry of them all was just wonderful and they’re great people and very kind and generous.”

Keller told 22News she cooked breakfast for the team Tuesday morning before they left Amherst for Buffalo– some players even mentioned they wished she could cook for them during the tournament.

“They really look forward to their breakfast, and I always say, you have to eat a nice healthy breakfast especially when you play sports because you got to have that energy,” Keller said.

UMass Dining– ranked #1 in the nation– has agreed to a friendly wager with University of Minnesota Duluth Dining for tonight’s championship game.

If UMass wins, UMD will serve New England Chowder and Boston Cream pie. If UMD wins, UMass will serve Minnesota creamy chicken wild rice soup and Lake Superior smoked white fish.

Keller is confident her team will pull through.

“It’s been a great ride,” Keller said. “They’ve worked really hard and they all love the game and they all just want to bring home the trophy to UMass this weekend.”
