Three children and their mother were killed in a murder-suicide on Home Road in Sheffield, according to the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office.
41-year old Luke Karpinski allegedly killed his wife Justine Wilbur, their 3-year old child, and 7-year old twins before killing himself. The bodies were discovered after the home caught fire Wednesday morning.
“My daughter is really upset,” said Steve Plouf of Sheffield. “They were best friends in school and it breaks my heart to see her upset.”
Anthony Gulotta said his granddaughter was classmates with one of the victims and is really shaken up.
“It’s really hard for them at that age,” explained Gulotta. “This morning, she went to school and sat across from an empty desk.”
People in Sheffield said they are struggling to understand why a tragedy like this would happen.
“I’m wondering why, how, why this happened? It’s heartbreaking for everybody,” said Plouf.
Both Karpinski and Wilbur were attorneys.
The DA’s office said this is still an active investigation. The Medical Examiner in Boston is working to find an official cause of death for the family members.
